Walking
With few exceptions, we’ll walk at a very reasonable pace for about one hour, then break for 10 to 15 minutes.
However, the Support Van cannot follow the pilgrims for the first leg of Day 1, so only pilgrims who can walk that distance should venture beyond the city street. It is a vigorous walk uphill and down. Jogging strollers are permitted.
The only restrooms available to us are those found along our routes. The support van can pick up people as needed for a restroom break or other needs.
What to Wear
Modesty in dress is required. Dress appropriately for a religious event, not a typical hike. No jeans, shorts, tanks, shirts with logos/slogans, or tight-fitting clothing. Ladies, skirts below the knee, Gentlemen, collared shirts and slacks. Your shoes should be broken in. Coastal weather fluctuates – consider a light jacket that can be worn in the morning and stuffed into a backpack as it gets warmer.
Meals
Each family/pilgrim is responsible for their food for the entire pilgrimage. For hydration, you should pack a canteen, water bottle, or some other container to carry water during the walk. Due to the heat – we strongly advise you to pack some sea salt to take with water occasionally to replenish electrolytes.
Campsite
Depending on the weather, we will have a campfire on Fri. & Sat. nights. Compline will be sung, and we will have lights out at 10 pm.*
It’s important that we leave the campsites in pristine condition since there is no ‘cleaning crew.’ All pilgrims will need to assist in cleaning the campsite before we leave the camp each morning.
